Northern Neck Communities

The Northern Neck of Virginia is made up of many small villages and communities, many with populations of just a few hundred people. It's part of the charm of this special region of Chesapeake Bay Country. Here are just a few of the communities.

Burgess

This community sits at the major crossroads between Northumberland and Lancaster counties. It has a long history as a commercial area, and continues that tradition today.

Callao

Often called "the gateway to Northumberland," Callao is at the western edge of the county, welcoming visitors as they arrive. It boast the county's only traffic signal!

Irvington

Known as "the land of pleasant living," Irvington draws new residents as well as visitors. All fall in love with this one-time steamboat port.

Kilmarnock

The commercial center of the Northern Neck, Kilmarnock recently celebrated its 75th anniversary as an incorporated town - but its history is much longer.
