Holiday events this weekend  

Northern Neck organizations are getting an early jump on holiday activities with many kicking off Saturday, Dec. 1. Whether it's entertainment in the form of a locally-produced drama or a craft bazaar, there's plenty to do this weekend to get you in the Christmas spirit. And then on Monday, Christ Church in Irvington will celebrate the season with song at a special event that will also help restock area food pantries.

Here's a quick rundown of several of this weekend's events:

Saturday, Dec 1

8 AM – The 14th Annual Distinctive Bazaar at the Irvington United Methodist Church. The event runs until 3 PM

9 AM – Christmas in Kinsale; a holiday arts and crafts bazaar, firetruck parade, Santa comes to town to hear Xmas wishlists. Horsedrawn carriage rides, music, food, Memorial Tree. Info: 804-450-7651.804-472-3001; 804-450-7651

10 AM – Golden Village Christmas. The annual holiday craft fair, sponsored by Rice's Hotel Hughlett Tavern, runs until 2 PM at the Tavern in Heathsville.

10 AM - The Mary Ball Washington Museum in Lancaster Court House will hold a free Open House and Gift Shop Sale. The museum complex includes the 1797 Clerk of Court Office, circa 1820 Old Jail, and circa 1830 Lancaster House.

Meanwhile, the Westmoreland Players are performing Charles Dickens' “A Christmas Carol” through December 16, a great way to welcome the holidays. Call 804-529-9345 for ticket information and show times.

Monday, Dec. 3

The on Monday, Dec. 3, at 3:30 PM, Historic Christmas Church in Irvington presents “The Holly & The Ivy,” a concert of traditional songs, carols, and music. Join in this seasonal songfest in the beautifully "greened" church. Featuring Christchurch School Chorale. Admission: 2 non-perishable items for a local food bank.
