Holiday home tours in Reedville, Montross

Both the communities of Reedville, in Northumberland County and Montross, in Westmoreland, have scheduled holiday home tours for next weekend. “Christmas on Cockrell's Creek will be both Saturday, Dec. 8 and Sunday Dec. 9, sponsored by the Reedville Fishermen's Museum. The Westmoreland Museum Holiday House Tour is Sunday, Dec. 9 from 3 PM until 6PM.

The annual “Christmas on Cockrell’s Creek” weekend proudly highlights the Northern Neck’s rich maritime heritage. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the tour and include admission to all houses and museum events. Individual houses may be visited for $10 each. VISA and MC accepted at the museum office for advance phone orders. Tickets can be picked up at the ‘will call’ desk at the museum on tour days.

Reedville, still one of the most active fishing ports in America, was established in 1867. By the turn of the twentieth century business was booming and mansions were being built along ‘Millionaires Row”, the top end of Main Street. This prosperity led to the building of many fine residences on Main Street, which was declared a National Historic District in 1984. Two of the four homes in Reedville on Cockrell’s Creek this year are in the historic district, another is on Chesapeake Bay and a sixth is on Slough Creek off the Little Wicomico River. The talented ladies of the Chesapeake Bay Garden Club will again be adding festive seasonal touches to all the homes.

Meanwhile, you can purchase your tickets now for the Westmoreland tour, then pick up a tour booklet at the Museum. As an extra bonus, the Inn at Montross will be serving dinner from 5 PM
to 7 PM that evening, too! (Dinner is not included in the ticket price, but they have generously offered 15% off of your meal when you show your House Tour ticket or House Tour booklet.).

As always, these beautiful Westmoreland County homes will be dressed for the holidays with special assistance from Rebecca Gillions at the Ripol Residence and The Westmoreland County Garden Club at the Museum.
