Crowther Heating and AC keeps Northern Neck comfortable

Crowther Heating and Air Conditioning has been keeping the Northern Neck comfortable since 1955, when Waylon “Cluck” Crowther established the firm.

“Back then the company mostly dealt in space heaters and window units,” said Mike Crowther, who today presides over Crowther's six locations.

Today, Crowther Heating and Air Conditioning, or CHAC, is a major supplier of climate control services for residential and light commercial locations, such as schools, churches and strip shopping centers.

Mike says today's homeowner increasingly selects a heat pump for both heating and cooling, and that the appliances have been vastly improved over the years.

“Years ago, a common complaint was the heating unit blew out cold air. With variable speed fans and other upgrades in technology, that problem has mostly disappeared,” he said.

Radiant heaters, built into the floor, are also gaining popularity in the region, he said.

CHAC specializes in Carrier and Amana products, but Mike points out the company services nearly all makes a models, including units installed by other contractors. In fact, service is a big part of their business, and it's a times like this, at the point between the seasons, that homeowners should give some attention to their heating and air conditioning units.

“If you have an oil furnace, you definitely want to have the system cleaned and checked, not only for efficiency but also for safety,” Mike said.

“If you have a heat pump, you should have the system checked out twice a year, to maintain refrigerant levels and other important system,” he added.

“Performing the check in September or October might prevent an emergency call or major breakdown in January.”

These days, CHAC not only helps homeowners control their indoor climate, they actively work to improve its quality. The company offers a line of products, such as ultra violet lights, filters and humidifiers, to improve indoor air quality.

A fleet of trucks and a staff of highly trained technicians serve the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula from six convenient offices, making Crowther the logical choice when it comes to keeping your home comfortable all year round.
